What is FIBO: 2016 Convention Preview

April’s annual FIBO convention in Germany is the world’s leading event for the fitness industry. 850 exhibitors and 136,000 visitors will occupy 10 convention halls to display and learn about the latest innovations of the fitness industry from April 7th to 10th. The first two days are reserved for Trade Visitors only, with access opening up to everyone the second half of the show.

FIBO is so large because it’s actually three shows happening simultaneously: FIBO Expert, FIBO Passion and FIBO Power.

FIBO Expert is the business focused show. It’s a destination for managers, distributors, suppliers, investors and decision-makers to network and view new products from companies such as Life Fitness, Technogym and Johnson Health Tech.

FIBO Passion is for fitness fans, who are offered a chance to experience the newest products before they hit store shelves, and connect with their favorite companies. Attendees can also shop for the best new fitness gear at the convention.

FIBO Power is for the strongmen and women of Europe. It’s the largest meeting of bodybuilders, weight trainers and martial artists on the continent.

FIBO3-t-c_1.jpgFIBO Passion: This year FIBO is creating the first ever fitness immersion world at FIBO Passion. “Visitors will get a chance to test different fitness concepts for themselves, rather than just watching them - a way for us to reach new target groups at a consumer level,” said FIBO event director Ralph Scholz. Manufacturers will create a variety of themed worlds at the “Active Hall” for consumers to experience. One of the themes is digitisation.

“Our biggest challenge for FIBO 2016 is definitely how to appropriately depict the digitisation theme,” said Scholz. “We have to deal with the consequences of so many fitness industry spheres going digital. What products and ideas exist today, and what challenges are gym operators running into? Our goal is to tie the differing perspectives all together.”

FIBO Passion also has a 15,000 square meter shopping mall with 170 exhibitors showing off the latest fitness gear, as well as exciting adventure areas for members to explore.

FIBO Expert: For 2016, FIBO has created a new premium hall dedicated for the fitness topics of the future. The focus here and all throughout FIBO will be on the impact of wearables and other new electronic fitness devices has on the industry.

FIBO Power: One of the marquee FIBO power events is the attempts of attendees to set Guinness World Records in strength categories. There are also traditional bodybuilding beauty competitions, as well as the Strongman Champions League on Saturday. Don’t miss “Arm Wars” the battle of professional armwrestlers from across the world.
